Since setting up these pages towards the end of 2003 I have received a great many emails on the subject of fuel "saving" devices, along with many general automotive queries. The vast majority of comments have been positive and I am glad to have been of help. However, I maintain these pages in my spare time and without any financial reward, so there is a limit to how much time I can spare! As a result, I have to set down some ground rules. Please don't email me until you've checked through this list of typical queries:

My car has (these symptoms). How can I fix it? Sorry, I really can't diagnose faults by email. For modern cars, find somebody with the proper diagnostic tool (nowadays, that doesn't always mean a dealer) and get them to check it out.

I have (device) fitted to my car, and it works really well. Why do you say it doesn't? Anecdotal evidence is not proof! Re-read this page for comments on user reports.

I am a lawyer/agent/marketer for (device), and you are being unfair to our product. See this page, and rest assured that I will take your comments on board.

I've come across (device), which looks really good and isn't on your list. What do you think? It almost certainly is one of the types I describe, but if you think it may be genuinely novel, let me know. But please check here first (if entering the name of the device doesn't help, try a key word relating to the technology ("ignition", "hydrogen", etc) instead):

Everyone knows (device) could save 50% fuel use, but it is supressed by oil companies / Freemasons / aliens / etc. Please read my page on conspiracy theories...while you still can :-)

I am the maker/seller of a novel device that really works. What is your test data? You need emissions and economy data from a standardised rolling-road emissions drive cycle, either European or Federal. You need A-B-A testing, and enough repeats to give statistically valid results. Any other sort of test data - especially customer testimonials - is simply worthless. Go away and get some proper data and I'll look at it. (If you say your product somehow "doesn't work on these tests", read this page and then explain why.)

If you are genuinely interested in doing such testing, I would be happy to advise on test methods, and suggest some independent test houses that could carry out the work.

How can I genuinely improve my economy / performance? See either this page or this page respectively. Due to pressure of time, I cannot answer questions about performance upgrades - sorry!

One of your links is broken / outdated. Please let me know so I can fix it.

Can you explain (this) better, please? Obviously there is a limit to how much I can put on a site like this, so I have had to assume a certain level of knowledge in advance. If something here doesn't make sense, let me know, but I can't promise I will be able to explain it any more fully.

You seem to know your stuff. Could you do some paid consultancy work for me? In principle, I'd be interested, but only if it didn't conflict with my "day job".

If you still want to contact me, send me an email and I will be as helpful as I can. Due to pressure of work I am sometimes only able to check this account about once a week so please be patient! Important update: my wife and I have recently had a baby; as a result, I am even more pressed for time than usual. Please don't be offended if you get very brief answers to questions, especially if these are not directly related to the theme of this site.

I don't put a "clickable" link here (like mail@something.info), because this is a certain way to receive thousands of offers of Viagra, body part enhancement and Nigerian banking scams. But if I tell you that my email address is mail2 (at) fuelsaving (dot) info then I'm sure you can figure it out...
Important: due to high levels of spam, the old "tony (at) fuelsaving (dot) info" and "mail (at) fuelsaving (dot) info" addresses no longer work; please use the new "mail2" address instead. Don't be surprised if this changes to "mail3" in the future!

By the way, I don't see why anyone else should want to receive such offers, so as a rule I won't "publish" the email address (or comments) from anyone who writes to me. I do, however, reserve the right to do so in "self-defense" if threatened with legal or other action.

Note to makers or sellers of fuel "saving" devices writing to complain: I will always respond positively to reasoned arguments, especially if accompanied by technical data. But if your first contact with me is a belligerent threat of legal action without explanation of the specific cause for concern, I will tend to be equally belligerent. I will be especially unhelpful if your message makes it clear you have not read my legal or moral arguments in defence of this site.

I will always answer emails, even if only to say "sorry I can't help you". I have however had a few problems with my email system, so if you haven't had a response within a couple of weeks, please mail me again. Also please check your "spam" folders, as the "fuel saving" address often triggers spam filters!

Some messages to me have apparently invalid return addresses. If you have written to me and had no response after a couple of weeks, please check the "unable to contact" list. Also make sure you are using the correct mail address - see above.
